The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I've had a look through and the only map is a star-map (on page 59)

So what format is that colony map? AutoCAD? (Sorry if you have already said, I've butted in half way through a thread without reading it all first  ) If so I have a nice big A1 plotter at work and I'd love the file so I can print myself one (when the boss isnt looking)

Saw this on Castle the other night and thought it would look good with the map on it:

Or, make a reverse sticker of the image and sandblast/glass bead it onto a piece of plexi or glass and then backlight with LED's.

Probably the same effect either way, but with sand blast/glass beading, you won't have a sticker trying to peel off after a few years.

That would be VERY cool. And is probably how it looks when the colonists use it and actually switch the thing on. 8)

Thanks also to those that looked at the roleplaying book to see if that had any further info.

I stand corrected - I'm just watching an episode of Red Dwarf from series II and they do use the 'Aliens' style pallet quite a bit. I'd imagine they either belonged to the BBC scenery department or were hired in.

I know that in later episodes they used the other kind like the ones I have.

If it helps, here's the part where the marines are moving to the colonists.

I´ve digged trough the whole discussion here about the colony layout and must say few things
Space Jockey done a good job with the colony map situated in South lock lab.
If someone here want to build Hadley´s Hope colony allmost same like that-one created for the movie
Must do lots of major corrections...I´ve done them 3 years ago. :D
The main reference for me is the model of the whole complex (1:60?) and after that the detailed boulevard with bar&grill (1:8?scale)
and the 1:1 North Lock scene.
There are lots of fotos about the colony model and less about the landing grid so, in my 3D model is this location partially my fiction.(the fuel tanks and the structure on the other side of the landing pad - building 39)

My 3d project page:

http://aliens.humlak.cz/aliens/aliens_papirove_modely/aliens-lv426-project_gb.html

and my addon into the allmost correct model

Red - my fiction stuctures because of blur or no reference pics.
Green - The place and route where marines enter the colony
Yellow - The place and route where Ripley and the rest of the crew enter the colony

Image

any questions about the colony exterior?....i know it very well

And some action in the end.

Any update on this amazing project? I'd really love to make a modestly sized version using some plexiglass I have kicking around...

Rob's right - they make etched glass or frosted glass vinyl that would work for this... shame I don't work in a sign shop anymore.

interesting, if a vector outline existed or someone was to create one i could cut this in etch vinyl myself, apply it to some perspex and edge light the panel to give it the glow as im still in the sign game

for me no ;) - perspex, polished edges is the easy bit, the messing around for the best result will be trial and error - first trying vinyl, then possibly engraved. i dont see why my perspex supplier could not cnc the map and engrave onto the perspex to be honest - first things first id need a vector outlined or map suitable for a cnc machine before i went any further to try this.
