The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

As most of you know the UK Garrison have been kindly inviting the UKCM to MCM events the last few years, however MCM now have new owners that are insisting each group has it's own Public liability insurance, without it no group can attend MCM events.

After this got mentioned the other day, I had a little chat with a good friend of mine . She's a solicitor who specialises in insurance, liability etc and is who sorts out all my various insurance for me.

A group who are a guest of the show and an advertised attraction, should fall under the shows PLI. In fact, if something happened and a member of the public made a claim, then it would have to be against the show/organisers and not the costume group.
Therefore any individual group pli is actually made redundant.

What about the celeb guests? I'm assuming that MCM are going to insist on them having pli as well?

OR...
the owners know how expensive pli is, and Small groups aren't going to have it. Is this just the next step of hoops to jump through designed to get rid of the smaller groups?

Thanks for the clarification. Also, in Germany MCM asked for it. But it was more like an optional point.
Nice for them to move/reduce cost and not a must for the fan groups at that point in time.

I was told by another costume group that I was thinking of joining last year that yes they are insured but because of this members of there group pay £10 a year to help cover costs note there was less than a hundred people in the group I think only about 70 or so at the time

Can we not just use the same insurance as reenactors?

This being the case, maybe they will revise their decision in the future.

But as things stand at the mo. No PLI, no official invite to MCM from UKG :(

I know a couple of the other clubs have had to take this out so they can continue to attend.

I have had PLI as a re-enactor over vsarious groups. In fifteen years never needed it, but I guess its there if I do.

I had a look around and there is this now; https://www.just-cos.co.uk/members/signup

£20/year

PLI for my 18thC group, where we shoot real muskets and cannons, is only £10 per member per year.
