So events conspired and the build is now a work in progress

I'll be continuing to upgrade as time and funds allow, but for now, well you can see the picture

I'm not sure what I've done with my rank and union flag patches but they will be on as soon as I find them, which just leaves locating a ship patch that isn't sold in Chinese!

Great! Another fellow Bus/Taxi driver ready for NSC!
The Cheyenne "Remove before flight" is a nice add on.

Thank you. Good to know I'll not be alone with the ground pounders!

My current loadout is more in the spirit of the expanded universe than screen accurate, I hope I'll be forgiven until I can get things right .

I want to get a Racal Headset with my redundancy payout.

Looks good! No forgiveness ever necessary - its your costume, to make as accurate or not as you choose - but there are some great reference photos around if you need any.

Second what Matt wrote.
My DS pilot costume is also EU.
If you don’t find a headset in time I can recommend Chef’s props.

I was looking at the kit in Chiefs kitchen

Checked out my kit Saturday against Ferro's

My left arm patches are too low, and I need a Union flag (2x3 inch) I also need to swap out the USCM tape for a nametape (fight the wrong way round)

I'm amused that the placement of Spynkmeyer and Ferro's Victory by Wings patch is different!

Otherwise I'm fairly happy, especially with the Racal headset.

I figure the next move is a flak vest, and then a M41A1

The vest is easy to find/buy e.g. http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/m69-flak-vest-product,14098
It's never to late to get an M41A. :) Recommand Spat's Spulse resin kit.

That's the vest I'm looking at, it's a fraction of the weight :)

SOF also do a very good jungle boot

fake jungle boots are always a bad investment

I would say never get anything from Soldier of Cost a Fortune...

Get yourself an Israeli Flak jacket. They're practically identical to the M69 and a fraction of the cost.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Isra ... Sw9mFWLQY1

They don't come with any of the inserts, so are as light as anything. And you can make your own out of some newspaper and some gaffa tape if you really want to pad it.

As usual Rob is right. :)
The Israeli Jacket is light and if you lucky also cheap.

Thanks Rob, I'd have never looked at that

I've used rollmat to pad body armour in the past, and probably will this time as it gives a pretty good result when sculpted

I keep meaning to try an experiment with a body warmer inside a flak jacket.

I have a genuine one that weighs a ton, and the Israeli one thats empty - but would be nice to pad it a little.

Ive done a few flak vests now and have found that using camping mat always makes them look funny as its so light and tries to go flat again, I had fairly good results with newspaper covered in gaffa tape although its quite heavy and hot, the best results were with 6 or 7 layers of curtains cut to shape and sewn together, light but holds the right shape, is warmer than the newspaper and gaffa tape though.

I took your recommendation on the Isreali vest, I'd prefer it in a matte finish but for the price I can't complain.

I've rigged it with double layer of camping mat which is the same as I've done for vests I've used in other projects, so I'll see how thst goes.

My big question is do I Velcro it it attach the patches directly. I prefer directly attaching patches, but Velcro leaves it open to other purposes...

They do dull down after a bit.

As for the patches... well, depends on what else you're going to use it for.

Personally I'd sew the patches on and just get another vest for the price.

Ironically I sell the patches for the UKCM and I'm Chinese :)

This 'build' kind of stalled due to r/l drama, however it's just about dealt with so it's time to get cracked on.

As a note to myself;
USCM font nametape, move ship badge and rocker patch, obtain holster from chef, olive drab snood, connect headset to box.

Find helmet gubbins!

Real life has been distracting for a while now and I've not moved on much. Headset took a battering earlier this year and needs repairing, I am finally at a point that I can start on the helmet build

So of course I am promptly distracted by a ground pounders helmet on ebay...
