The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Gents, I've been advised by Master Sergeant Baldwin that in the UKCM I need to request to be given the rank of Corporal. I served as an Army Cadet between the ages of 13-18 and gained promotion to Corporal, and I was hoping to get my old stripe sown onto my uniform sleeve. Could anyone advise how I go about requesting this rank please?

UKCM has a system where you can sew any rank you like on your uniform.

Separately there is a concept of UKCM rank by which promotion is awarded informally for good deeds, silliness or helping out other members.

After attending your first drop, you get Pvt as UKCM rank.

That said, neither uniform rank nor UKCM rank implies any real chain of command.

So you are both Corporal and Pvt. :)

As I don't like being misquoted, what I wrote was:

As for ranks, the UKCM is the only fandom that gives out promotions, so, you will need to refer to them concerning this question. The USCM, UACM and other groups allow the individual to choose their own rank.

It's just silliness, don't take it personal I'd say, it's people making up fantasy ranks and taking things way too serious I reckon.
Have fun with your costume and replicas and feel free to ignore whoever tries to force useless made up concepts on you.

It's a free-will community after all where some would like to be more equal than their fellow costumers, so conflict is potentially always there but can easily be avoided by just ignoring the wrong kinda crowds.

Just my own personal opinion of course, not to piss on anyones beliefs.

The biggest complaint we have received about the UKCM ranks is that they aren't taken seriously - every time we meet up and get really drunk, at least 5 people get promotions. The next morning, we can't remember who was promoted to what rank...

So, Andy - meet up for a drink and we'll get your ranks matching up... :)

(I'm moving the thread into the UKCM section, BTW)

Gareth, you promoted me to Colonel in charge of curry, remember?

Although I think I lost it due to Xbox Avatar hacking....

For the record, I'm the only one taking it way too seriously.

Andy, As G mentioned above once someone has joined the UKCM after there first drop they are given the rank of Private. There was time when we made a little bit of a deal out of it on the day and that is something that has sadly slipped over the years. Possibly something we need to look in to reviving.

After that promotions are very casually given when people have gone out of there way to help others, helped the group or in someway exceeded people expectations above above and beyond. It's normally recommend by someone and seconded by others in attendance, approval is then sort though the squad leader.

As we are a heavily social group this activity is normal formalised at the bar. It's for fun and has no actual meaning or official sign of 'superiority' Someones rank means essentially nothing.

That said most of us are fiercely proud of the rank we have received, it's a measure of respect and a token give by our peers.

Thanks for your thoughts Kev. I do realise that any rank in the CM is purely fictional and carries no authority. Mr Kobus explained much the same as youself in a PM a short while ago, so thanks for clarifying it further :-) I was advised to speak to Spiderpool asking what patches are available, I've messaged him and I'm awaiting his reply, so hopefully by the time the NEC drop arrives I should be sporting some kind of patch.

Yes, especially as that curry was carrying dormant explosive a la Escape From New York. One press of his remote, and its all over....

...Hang on, I might have got it mixed up with curry powder....

...ah crap.

The mistake you made was asking of these... other regts and foreigners for advice, when in fact you belong to the greatest Regt. in the UKCM led by the finest CO (ask CrashDown) that money can buy.
