The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Bournemouth Comic Con - 1st time Marine - P Rifle Question

Hi All

I've been working on my colonial marine costume since last august.

The organisers of the London Film & Comic Con are holding an event in Bournemouth for the first time at the BIC This August (2015)

I've done a stormtrooper costume & blaster before with no issues, but I was wondering what the deal is with Pulse Rifles.

I have a snowwolf pulse rifle, the only battery every connected up to it being the one that controls the LED counter.
I met a few of the UKCM last year in london - And I'm pretty sure they were all rocking their pulse rifles no problem.

My question is - are there any other precautions / modifications I should make to mine in order to avoid problems with entry to the event.
The last thing I want is to cause people distress, not to mention risk having the rifle confiscated.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

Aaron

Would not hurt if you followed these rules, obviously the con may have a weapons policy that you may have to check

Hello

You should be OK if you cover the PR whilst going to the event.

At my last drop I had the PR in a rifle bag and only brought it out when I was fully geared up.

I patrolled around with no problems. If anything people are interested in the PR and approach me to ask questions.

Nothing was said to me (and guessing) to the other members of UKCM about displaying our PR's.

I hope this helps?

As others have implied - the venue/event rules need to be followed. Typically, Showmasters is pretty understanding but this is a new venue so care must be taken.

As Rob said: PRs need to be kept covered when outside and also when out of costume. Of course, standing beside an Alien makes problems less likely too ....

We have our own rules which Kris linked to. If you go against them then you're on your own!

There is a signup thread for this event here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15169

Thanks guys, all the info is really helpful.

As I said before, I've done the whole stormtrooper thing - half of it is common sense.

I really appreciate the help, and hope to see some of you at the event :)

All the best

Aaron

As an air softer, Id like to add a few extras to the UKCM rules on this....

Basically treat the rifle as the real thing. Transporting my weapons from sites often includes me going to great lengths to make sure they aren't seen in public. I bag all mine in a carry case or gun bag. I make sure the mags are stored separately and there are no batteries in the weapon. I even go as far as to cover my gun bag in a bin bag to make sure it looks non descriptor. And this is just transporting it from the house to the car.

Don't have the on public display unless being used at an authorised event (I would suspect) and make sure you have read the carry rules, and the sites own rules and regs on what is expected for the event as far as your weeps are concerned. Mostly its common sense but I know a few airsofters who have been careless and lost their weapons to the police because of a simple thing of loading them into the car in plain view. I know it sounds a little daft but in this day and age, a slip up like that can be an expensive mistake.

I think most of that is covered already by the carry rules - transportation is covered in the very last paragraph. viewtopic.php?p=174925#p174925

I certainly wouldn't recommend carrying a PR in a black-bag only, but if your gun bag screams "Gun Bag!" then maybe that's a good idea.
