A few other things that annoyed me were specifically pertaining to our relationships with other groups.
We were not, as he claimed, "Set up by the UKG". The UKCM was formed at an event nominally organised by the UKG and the National Space Centre. For the first two years or so, we did find that certain members of the Garrison disapproved of us... But, crucially, as time passed and we found ourselves sharing greenrooms at various drops ( NSC, Expo and Collectormania Glasgow mainly ) we started to become more tolerant of each other, and now I'd certainly say that the two groups are friendly rivals. I know I can count a good number of Garrison as good friends, anyway!
We do rib one another at times - The gag about TKs not taking their helmets off... Rich's Predator having a TK helmet in his trophy bag... Garrison officers "Inspecting" UKCM Marines and shaking their heads in despair - All jokes, meant and taken in good spirit.
When Assimilate stated that he hated the Garrison for being stuck-up pricks ( In a clear attempt to curry favour with the UKCM, and a clear misunderstanding of the relationship! ), then insisted that he was going to buy Stormtrooper armour, paint it pink, and skip along behind the Garrison throwing flowers from a basket... He was told in no uncertain terms that NO. NOT a good idea, do NOT do that. And, again - "I can do what I like and you can't stop me."
It took time and effort to build bridges with other costuming groups, and I take it as a personal affront when he tries to attack that, because I'm proud of the advances that we managed to make by simply interacting with the Scottish Garrison lads ( And lasses ) at Collectormania.
Then there's the way he deliberately sabotaged a surprise gift of special T-shirts for the Alien performers at 2010's Alien Encounter, and his claims that he didn't know it was a surprise ( When he was told, repeatedly, that it was - And I tore strips off of him for telling Rex BEFORE he then went and told Gareth )... That story later changing to "I thought Scapey was gonna give the bugs an extra T-shirt, then charge them an extra £15 for it, and I felt they needed to know that and not have a surprise expense on their hands!". Unsurprisingly, the two claims are mutually exclusive.
He was a bully, and an attention seeker. Well, I think he's got all the attention he wants right about now.
