The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Wecome grimwraith, to the Marine Corps. :D

With armour you have a few choices, depending on budget:

1. Terry English Armour:
The same as in Aliens (he made it), but most expensive (think second-hand car).

2. Spat Armour:

http://www.spatcave.com/spatstore2.htm (read the FAQ)

A lot cheaper than TE armour, but plastic instead of aluminium.

3. Some sets (usually Spat or self-made) do get offered for sale on here or the usual auction sites, but not very often.

Smartgun:
Not commercially available (AFAIK), but search on here for smartgun or M56 and you'll find info.
Some links:

HTH. :)

Oh, and could you put your location (town+country or just country) in your profile, so we know whether to talk about $, £ or any other currency.

The website will be back up soon I imagine, probably some time after the event in Leicester next month.

One thing to mention might be that you say you are looking for armour and an M56 smartgun. However, the smartgun can't be worn with armour. The harness would not fit over the armour so if you do want to do a Smartgunner costume then armour is something that you don't really need.

You could also contact member Matsuo on this board about his resin MG42 parts but I'm not sure if you would have problems getting them into the country at the moment but let's not turn this thread into another discussion about that. There is a thread concerning the ban on peplica firearms in the Ready Line which you may want to check out.

The BDU's the marines wear cna be bought from Scifimilitary.com Contact MAA on that board.

Olive Drab jungle boots can be found on ebay quite often. Although (can someone confirm) I think Drake or Vasquez may have worn black boots, not sure at the moment.

The Flak vest that Drake wears is M1969 flak jacket.

Cheers

Darren

Well, I'm Bristol, too *waves*, not a friend of Cordy are you?

Can't really add much more than has already been said. Smartgunners use the M1969 flak jacket, I believe there is one up on eBay at the moment in the UK, but they are always available on the US eBay, just watch out for shipping, because they weigh a bit ;)

An alternative to a smartgunner is a PIG gunner. Not in the movie, but described in the technical manual

http://forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?t=2391

I'll be building one myself when I get a chance.

For Smartgunner harness, saintadjg is the man to talk to. He built his rather than spending thousands on a steadycam harness

A lot will depend on how accurate you want it to be.
If you impirt an MG42 (even as a resin kit)or scratch build one you run the risk of a criminal record and possibly jail(same for any replica weapon).
I went for the Smartgun as i thought it'd be cheper as i already had the rig but i was wrong. It cost me a lot more than my TK did.
I've found a good source for the steadicam, though the vest is totally wrong style, its rear mount whereas the original was a front mount MKIII Steadicam. The arm is good enough,i brought a full rig(arm, vest, and sled)for £600(this is not the rig i use with the SG,i made that one).Unless you have access to a workshop it'll probably cost around the same to make one.
The headset is very rare they come around as often as Haley's comet.
The motorcycle parts used on the SG can be found with a bit of searching and can vary in price.
My AR struts cost me £20 ,the set i got outbid on before went for £70-80
GPZ 750 left hand switchgear usually go for around £50
Flak vest cost me $200 delivered.
Boots are pretty readily available on ebay
BDU's are available

For the record, flak vests normally sell for a lot less than what Andy paid for his. I got a perfect 1970 dated M1969 vest in a size medium for £45 and an extra-large for £75. It's all about knowing where and when to get these things, though - for your general military gear needs your best bet is the Beltring militaria fair in Kent.

Lots of Aliens goodies show there - I've seen several Rapier helmets (the sights used for Spunkmeyer's helmet), boots aplenty, Smartgunner bits and bobs, gas mask bags... all kinds of stuff.

We know lots about Pulse Rifles on here.

If you're after a kit build PR with airsoft main gun, look here for info:

http://www.medwaypvb.com/pulse1.html

Instead of the Tokyo Marui Thompson, you can now get a cheaper clone, called the ACM, which is available from many sources, including the one on my page where I got the TM from.

Howver, with the new UK gun laws it's now very difficult to buy/own replica guns, so you may have to settle for a resin (non-moving part) one instead.

A number of us on here have Spat armour.

If you've got absolutely no talent (like me) for painting your own armour camo pattern, go for Spataflage, else go for one of the other plain colours, whichever you like most.

Spat's PRs are stopped for the moment:

http://forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?p=33057

But that thread does hint that another version is on its way.

Grimwraith, I bought Spatarmour off of another boardmember and it's fantastic!

If you are going to paint it yourself, there are guides on these boards as to the correct humbrol paints used in the film. Ask Spat to provide you with a plain Olive Drab set of armour, it's a great base coat for your camo.

If you want it all done for you, go Spataflage! Whilst not movie accurate, it still looks the biz, albeit with soft fuzzy sprayed camo rather than hard edged line camo pattern.

By the way, I don't know how much money a Smart Gun was going to set you back to make you change your mind, but be aware that a decent pulse rifle built from an airsoft CAN set you back £500/$1000 upwards. Spats Spulse rifle, if you can find one or wait for the mark III, is obviously much cheaper, but will be solid resin, though I do believe the Grenade Launcher pump slides back and forth?

Anyway, best of luck!

I've a mark II spulse that has served me well for a year of drops (and being dropped!). No slidey pump on the MkII though.

I'm in Warmley (not far from Longwell green), and you're welcome to pop over and see my USCM gear to give you an idea of things.
